CleanMyMac Alternatives, Including Options Without a Subscription

Updated November 2, 2026

CleanMyMac by MacPaw is the best-known Mac cleaner, and for many people it's worth the money. But if you're looking for something cheaper, something you buy once, or something that does one job well, you have good options, several of them free.

This guide explains what CleanMyMac does well, then compares the alternatives fairly. Prices and features were checked on each official site on November 2, 2026.

What CleanMyMac does well

According to cleanmymac.com, CleanMyMac bundles 25+ tools in one app:

It's notarized by Apple, has a 7-day free trial and a free version to try features, and offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. It requires macOS 11 or later.

Pricing: the official site lists plans "starting at $3.33/month." MacPaw sells both subscriptions (annual or monthly) and a one-time purchase. Per MacPaw's own support page, a one-time purchase covers updates for your current major version only, while a subscription includes future major versions. We couldn't load the official store to confirm the one-time price, so check it there.

If you want one app that covers cleanup, security and app updates, CleanMyMac is a strong choice.

Why people look for an alternative

Do you need a Mac cleaner at all?

Honestly, often not. macOS already does a lot. Apple says that when space is needed, macOS clears caches and logs that are safe to delete, including interrupted downloads, staged updates and Safari website data (Apple Support). And in System Settings > General > Storage you can see what's using space, store files in iCloud, and turn on automatic emptying of items that have been in the Trash for 30 days.

A cleaner earns its place when you want to find large or duplicate files quickly, tidy messy folders, or see memory and battery status in plain language. Try the free tools first; see the best free Mac cleaners.

OnyX: free and powerful, for confident users

OnyX is a long-running free utility that verifies system files, deletes caches, rebuilds databases and indexes, and exposes hidden settings for Finder, Dock and Safari. There's a separate version for each major macOS release, and the developer warns not to use a version meant for an older system. It has many options, so it suits people who know what each one does.

AppCleaner: the classic free uninstaller

Drop an app onto AppCleaner and it finds the app's related files so you can remove them together. It's a free download (donations welcome). Version 3.7 supports macOS 15 and later; 3.6.8 covers macOS 10.14 to 15.6. It does one job and does it well.

DaisyDisk: see where your space went

DaisyDisk shows your disk as an interactive map so you can spot big folders instantly. It can scan restricted folders as administrator, purge macOS snapshots and scan cloud storage. It's $9.99 one-time, "not a subscription," for up to 5 personal Macs, with a free trial download and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

MacCleaner Pro: a bundle of tools

MacCleaner Pro from Nektony combines an uninstaller, duplicate finder, disk analyzer, cache and log cleanup, startup-item and browser-extension management. For one Mac it's $14.95/month, $39.95/year, or $85.95 one-time (major upgrades cost extra on the one-time plan). There's a 2-day trial, and it supports macOS 11 or later.

TidyCub: tidy first, and every action can be undone

TidyCub is our app, so read this with that in mind. It focuses on the clutter people actually feel: a messy Desktop, a Downloads folder with thousands of files, leftover installers, and large or duplicate files.

The key promise: TidyCub never deletes outright. Removing means moving to the Trash, tidying means moving into subfolders, and History lets you undo any action. Undo keeps working even if the trial ends.

Where CleanMyMac is ahead: TidyCub has no malware scanning, no app uninstaller, no app updater and no cloud cleanup. If you want those, CleanMyMac or a dedicated tool like AppCleaner is the better pick.

TidyCub is a 7-day free trial, then a one-time purchase ($4.99), no subscription and no account. A license covers up to 3 Macs, refunds are available within 14 days, and it runs on macOS 13 or later (Apple silicon and Intel).
